Short break focused on the endangered and most beautiful Red-breasted Goose!

Red-breasted geese weekend

Wednesday 22nd - Saturday 25th February 2012

In January and February nearly the whole world population of the Red-breasted Geese can be found around Durankulak and Shabla lakes in north-east Bulgaria – 20-30 000 specimens. It is a flat area, who thankfully of the relatively mild climate, the closeness of the sea as well as the adjacent fields with winter wheat and the two freshwater lakes create the optimal conditions for the species to survive the winter.
In these three days you will enjoy the spectacular winter concentrations of the Red-breasted Geese. It is a spectacle you can’t see anywhere else. You will arrive at Varna airport and thus we will have enough time to explore the area. Beside the Red-breasted Geese, we are going to see about 80 more species.
Some of them will be Lesser White-fronted Goose, Pygmy Cormorant, Long-legged Buzzard, Rough-legged Buzzard, White-tailed Eagle, Merlin, Hen Harrier, Spotted Eagle, possible Saker Falcon, Moustached Warbler, Bearded Reedling, Syrian Woodpecker, Lesser Spotted Woodpecker, possible Great Black-headed Gull, Black and Red-throated divers, Smew, Eagle Owl, Shag, Calandra Lark, Corn Bunting, waders, gulls etc.
